Three Chords From The Truth wins Gemini
Posted by: cmt_dude
CMT's original comedy series, Three Chords from the Truth, was awarded with the Best Ensemble Performance in a Comedy Program or Series at the 24th annual Gemini Awards in Calgary on Nov. 14. The award honors the performances of Steve Cochrane, Kevin Ellis, Phyllis Ellis, George Komorowski, Adriana Maggs, Jordan McCloskey, Steven Morana, Paul Snepsts and Joel Stewart in series episode 10, "Tommy's Label Showcase."
This was one of two possible wins for the 10-part series produced by Toronto's Henry Less Productions and co-created by Phyllis Ellis, Steve Cochrane and Adriana Maggs. The series was also nominated for the Best Comedy Program or Series Gemini but was bested by CBC's The Rick Mercer Report.
The series' producers and several cast members were in Calgary to accept the Gemini including Phyllis Ellis, who plays the central character Helena Delaney. In her acceptance speech Ellis paid tribute to the series co-creators among others, saying, "We had a great cast. We had an amazing writer, Adriana Maggs. You can't get anything better. She writes amazing characters that have a lot of heart and humour. And Steve Cochrane, who was the co-creater but also directed the series - you couldn't have had a better director."
Three Chords from the Truth centers around Helena Delaney, who is a 40-something, overly confident success junkie given a second chance to triumph when she becomes the head of a country music television network. Along the way, Helena grapples with working for an ex-lover, dealing with eccentric employees and, to top it all off, battling her own cluelessness about country and the music industry in general. Ellis also won a Gemini for her portrayal of Helena Delaney in the CMT series, The Wilkinsons.
