One More Girl

Biography

They’re called One More Girl. Except, actually, they’re two.

Britt and Carly McKillip, collectively known as One More Girl – are nineteen and twenty-one respectively. They’ve been making music together since they were young girls and are already seasoned veterans of the entertainment business. Music is the heartbeat of the McKillip home – both parents are songwriters, and Dad, Tom is an award-winning producer and musician. The girls have grown up immersed in the country music scene, both here in Canada and in Nashville and cite many diverse artists as both influences and favorites – from music legends Pam Tillis, Vince Gill, Rodney Crowell, Radney Foster and Patty Griffin to Michelle Branch, Gavin DeGraw and Lady Gaga.

One More Girl call Vancouver, BC home and have accumulated an impressive list of credits in spite of their ages. The Calgary Stampede, the Merritt Mountain Music Festival and Canadian Country Music week are among the many events they’ve performed at, opening for artists such as Dwight Yoakam, Darius Rucker (Hootie & The Blowfish) and Keith Urban.

The CD, titled “Big Sky” was produced by Dad, Tom McKillip and the result is a collection of powerfully engaging country-tunes that spike emotions, and resonate in the heart. From the Stones infused “Misery Loves Company,” to the defiant first single, “I Can Love Anyone,” to the bittersweet lilt of “Hold On To Me”, there’s something truly compelling about the One More Girl sound…it’s alive…melodic…unique.

The first thing audiences notice about One More Girl is their pristine blend of voices, the sort of effortless harmonies only ever delivered by siblings. Their poise and presence is something not often seen in a pair of teens.

Over the past three years, Britt and Carly have been steadily winning over fans with riveting performances and their signature knock-out vocals. In addition to receiving 2005, 2006 and 2007 ‘Group of the Year’ nominations from the B.C. Country Music Association, the girls took home the prestigious ‘Horizon Award’ for the best new artist of 2009; and in March 2010 One More Girl love took home the prestigious Canadian Radio Music Award for ‘Best New Country Artist’.

In addition to their flourishing music careers, Britt and Carly have been acting for over ten years. Riding the wave of a booming west-coast film industry, their resumes reflect not only the scope of their talent, but a genuine commitment to entertainment culture. As well as being featured in a number of movie projects, Britt has appeared as the lead in two seasons of the critically acclaimed series ‘Dead Like Me’, and recently filmed the soon-to-be-released movie for the popular TV show. In addition she’s lent her voice to a number of animations including ‘Sabrina the Teenage Witch’ as Sabrina, Disney’s ‘Baby Loonytoons’, and ‘Bratz’, to name a few. Carly’s credits include a recurring role on the ABC series ‘Life As We Know It’ with Kelly Osbourne; and a guest-starring role on the NBC hit ‘Bionic Woman’. Her most impressive acting coupe to date has been playing the role of quirky teen Alice McLeod, on the CTV comedy series “Alice, I Think”.

To family, friends and fans who have watched Britt and Carly develop their careers, it was more relief than surprise when the news came that the girls had signed to EMI Music Canada.

Actor, entertainer and Order of Canada recipient Tom Jackson was the catalyst to the girls signing with EMI Music Canada. After seeing the girls perform in their living room, Mr. Jackson commented: “When I first heard One More Girl, I was overwhelmed by their pure passion and conviction…as I watched them sing I was drawn into the love and trust that only sisters can have for one another…I bear witness to the changing face and the beautiful future of country music…” Jackson was so impressed that he brought the girls to the attention of Deane Cameron and Fraser Hill of EMI Music Canada, which led to their eventual signing.

One More Girl are young, fresh and exciting new faces in the Canadian country music scene. Their country pedigree is impeccable, having parents who are both noted songwriters and producers. “EMI Music Canada is honoured to be working with One More Girl,” comments Fraser Hill, Senior Director of A&R.

Leading up to the release of “Big Sky” in October 2009, One More Girl saw their first three radio releases reach as high as #6 on the Canadian country charts, with “When It Ain’t Raining” hitting the #1 spot at CMT. Their fourth single “Tumblin’ Tears” sprinted to the top of the charts, and in January 2010 enjoyed the distinction of being the most added single (including U.S. artists) in all formats. One More Girl’s fifth single and video, “The Day I Fall” has just been released and shows every sign of continuing the One More Girl love affair with radio. In addition, Britt and Carly recently wrapped up a successful showcase in June 2010 on the Global Artists Stage in Nashville, as part of CMA Fest. Factoring in their on-going writing schedule with some of Nashville’s hit songwriters, and a string of tour dates surfacing on the spring/summer horizon, it’s all systems go for this bright young act.

Keep an eye on One More Girl. They’re the newly emerging – and engaging – face of country music.
